Railwaykiosk

IT’S been about 14 months since my last fundraiser. I thought about conducting one at Christmastime, but it seems that everyone is asking for money during the Christmas season and besides I was very busy taking care of a relative, so I decided to wait. Now that you are coping with Christmas bills and are dead broke, here I am asking you to support this kiosk on the Internet highway. It’s not primarily about money, this place, but money helps compensate for the personal sacrifices and hard work. I am seeking to raise $10,000. That isn’t all that much for 14 months of work. Our plumber, I believe, makes that in an afternoon. But then plumbers, who are enviably non-controversial, are much, much more necessary than bloggers. The world can get along fine without bloggers, which is why I may not come anywhere close to my goal. If I don’t meet my goal in a few weeks, I will scale back and work on some longer pieces. Anyone who has contributed will receive a share of those writings by private e-mail. It’s a win-win situation.

No need to apologize if you can’t give. I understand. Thank you for your generosity if you can. You can make donations here.

By the way, I am approached by advertisers fairly often. I always turn them down. I’m sure whatever they have to offer wouldn’t add up to much, and you are surrounded by walls of advertising. You won’t find it here.

There are some people who read this site every day even though they vehemently disagree with it. It’s strange that they never feel obliged to pay for the privilege of having such a reliable enemy. They are welcome to give too. They can think of me as someone who helps sharpen their arguments against “fundamentalists” and “bigots.” They can give with an easy conscience. I am providing an intellectual service to them, that’s all. Much like my plumber, I may be unclogging invisible passageways of built-up gunk. If they don’t give when they can, however, it’s a form of petty theft. I suggest these pickpockets find food for thought elsewhere.
