Medical Facts and Mass Shootings

March 3, 2018

THE UNFAMILIARITY OF AMERICANS with basic medical facts related to gun violence is a serious problem in this age of mass shooting reports. Those who have never been to crime scenes or seen real people who have been shot or stabbed (I did repeatedly in my years as a newspaper reporter) may be easily deceived.

The writer Bernie Suarez explains in this 2017 piece some of the things you need to look for in the news in terms of both the physical and psychological responses to gun violence. (I apologize for the ads on the linked page.) He writes:

The notion that a person is somehow instantly killed by a handgun wound is a myth sold by Hollywood movies which regularly portray people dropping dead as soon as they are shot. Amazingly, we happen to also see this in fake events which portray one shot one kill or a couple of shots and instant kill. Again, there is no reality to this fictional portrayal of gunshot victims pushed by Hollywood and now mainstream media.

Here’s another post from Suarez about the “medical impossibilities” of the Orlando staged shooting. (Note: My linking to his articles is not an endorsement of all of Suarez’s views.)

We can confidently say the Sandy Hook shootings were staged because, for one, the parents of the murdered students never demanded that their children be taken to the hospital and never demanded that they [the parents] be let in to see their children when they arrived at the school. This violates all standard practice regarding the treatment of gunshot victims and the normal psychological reactions of parents.
