Note: ‘Kolkata’ is the relatively new politically-correct name for Calcutta. But ordinary Indians still call it Calcutta, just as they call ‘Mumbai,’ Bombay and ‘Chennai,’ Madras.

These ever-so-sensitive nouveau words and pronunciations, increasingly more confounded to Anglo-Saxon ears, serve to inhibit understanding of world affairs. Perhaps that is the point.
